The vineyard at Lestrille... The Vines, in average 20 years old, are planted with the traditional Bordeaux grape varieties : 75 % merlot, 25 % cabernet sauvignon. Regarding the whites, we grow sauvignon blanc and sauvignon gris, semillon and muscadelle. A special care is given to the vineyard, with severe pruning, adapted to each vine, in order to limit the yield and concentrate the flavours, high foliage exposure, grass grown between the rows of vines, thinning out of the leaves for a better sun explosure and optimum maturity at harvest. The spraying are planned according to an evironment-friendly integrated grape pest management. An engineer's study made at Lestrille in 2001, was carried out so as to better understand the mechanism of the vine diseases and limit the sprayings. The outcome of the study revealed that sprayings at Lestrille are controlled in average 30 % below those done on other estates in the area. At Lestrille we are proud of this little help for our environment ! |
